How to level up your Zoom calls and look professional
It has become more popular to have video calls now, but it can be tricky setting them up and looking professional. Here are some easy tips to have an amazing business online video call.
1. The Look
When we are working from home it’s very tempting to work in your pjs, leggings or undies (no judgment), but to feel professional you have to look professional. So get appropriately dressed (this all depends on your industry) and make sure you feel good.
2. Lighting
Do not sit in a dark room where no one can see you. Open the blinds or turn on your lights before the call.
3. The Setup
The best way to look good on camera is good angles. Do it on your computer so it’s nice and steady. If you have to do it on your phone, but others are on their computer, then turn your phone so it’s horizontal. When working on a laptop, it’s often lower than you would like, so place it on top of a box or books to elevate it.
4. Nice Background
Tidy up behind you! The less there is behind you, the less distractions. A clean background will make it easier for your viewers to concentrate on you and not what’s behind you.
5. Testing
This is exactly the same as if you have a presentation... always make sure you test the technology and that your video is working before the call. Send a call invite to your partner or friend to test the call.
6. Use a good program
I love using Zoom, but it can be a bit complicated when you first start with. However they do have good instructions on how to use it. Most importantly, if you haven’t used it before and you receive an invite is to download zoom before the call. I set mine up with my google account so that when I schedule a call or get invited to one it will automatically be added to my google calendar. I can also send invites straight from my email connected to gmail. If a client does not have Zoom I also give the option to do a skype call.
7. Simple Scheduling
If you are going back and forth finding the right time to have a call, I highly recommend investing in Acuity! It can be used to schedule normal calls, consultations, 1-1 coaching, yoga classes etc. You set times that you are available and if this is a service you provide you can charge straight from there.
8. Sound
If there will be noise in the background, use some earphones with a microphone. They will easily hear you. If you are unsure then do a test call with a friend.
